As a country that starts with I listed on Countryaah.com, the country of Indonesia is not stingy with world records: Lake Toba, more than three times the size of Lake Constance, is the largest crater lake, and Borobudur, built around 800, is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. The world’s largest lizards live in Indonesia, the Komodo dragons, which are up to 3 meters long. The flowers of the giant rafflesia are the largest in the plant kingdom, measuring one meter in diameter, and nowhere else are there more active volcanoes, including the famous Krakatau. Indonesia 1

It grows green around the temple Pura Gunung Kawi, the temple itself also shimmers green, the humid air allows moss to grow on the carved walls and stone statues. Peace lies above the sanctuary, only colorful koi carp swim in the water basins, believers carry out their ritual ablutions in the water from sacred springs.

Our starting point is the artist town of Ubud. Surrounded by small villages, we experience everything that makes up the magic of Bali in a small space: when we visit locals, we learn a lot about Hinduism, we watch painters at work and stop in small, stylish restaurants. In the water palace we feel the rhythm of traditional dance theater.

It is a trip for the sporty: In Bali you can cycle, hike, paddle and bathe around the Gunung Batur volcano and its crater lake, depending on your courage, both hot and ice cold. We then take the speedboat to the neighboring island of Lombok, where we start our three-day trek to the Rinjani volcano.

We hike through dense forest to the edge of the crater. Macaques dumbbell their way from branch to branch and with their long, pointed canine teeth, a whole horde crouches behind some bends. The most beautiful moment? Difficult to say: is it the sight of the small volcano in the crater lake of the large volcano? The summit storm in the early morning of the heavens, just in time for sunrise? Or bathing in the hot springs? Afterwards we can snorkel on the lonely beaches of the island Gili Gede at the coral reefs, if you want you can go diving with the hammerhead sharks.

Before we can relax on the coast of Tajakula in the evening, we go on a short hike to the Sekumpul waterfall. This almost undeveloped tourist area with its rivers, valleys and waterfalls also offers us the opportunity to take a refreshing swim in crystal clear mountain rivers.
