As it was rumored, Sony has just confirmed that going to buy CMOS sensors business of Toshiba, enhancing production capabilities in what has become in, perhaps, the most important technological division of the company. With a market of more than 40% of the total number of sensors for cameras, the Japanese company wants to further cement its domain by buying the area of sensors from Toshiba, which had created solutions for many leading mobile market, in addition to developing its own technology.
The idea of Sony is taking control, in terms of manufacturing, employees and equipment, Toshiba facilities in the South of the Japanese city of Oita and pass this plant under the umbrella of the new subsidiary of Sony Corporation’s next creation, Sony Semiconductor Solutions.
By Toshiba, the agreement will allow the company to “devote their resources to products that have a high technological advantage”, according to the press release from Sony. The company is currently in the process of restructuring after an accounting scandal that has affected its directive dome.
